Random Thoughts on Article Writing

At what point in your article writing career do you feel you have finally arrived as an article writer? Is it when you have many clients knocking down your door or is it when you write with a creative flair that comes naturally?
Often, I found myself asking these questions. Almost every writer I know would love to have their pick of clients. Your ability to choose which clients you work with indicates your services are crucial to a lot of people. Unfortunately, not so many writers are so lucky; not due to any fault of theirs anyway. The competition is sometimes just too fierce for some genuine writers to catch their break.
There are a group of self styled article writing experts (tongue in cheek) whose stock in trade is outsourcing their clients work. Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with outsourcing of work. What I don't like however is outsourcing a client's work when the client thinks you are the one doing the work. This smacks of dishonesty. This group of article writing experts are always the ones that claim to know everything there is to know about every topic under the sun. If there is ever anything to be known about a subject, they are always the experts.
Such article writing expertise often results in outsourcing. My take is that the final article submitted to their client often falls short of expectations. These writers would naturally want to make a profit after outsourcing their jobs. It is very easy for them to look for low paid writers to do the job. If you are a low paid writer, there is little motivation for you to showcase your best. The result of low motivation is mediocrity.
I want to fleetly touch on another group of writers - the wannabe writers. Article writing wannabes have little or no experience and would balk at the idea of putting in a few hours a day to polish their writing skills. You see them on bidding sites like Freelancer, vWorker, Scrptlance to mention a few. I usually head towards the other direction once I come in contact with these writers. Their main identifying factors are poorly written articles in bad English, long sentences that make little sense and their claim to be the best writer around.
Another smaller group are those willing to learn. They admit they don't have much experience but they are willing to go the extra mile. If you come across such writers you immediately sense they have something to offer; maybe not right away, but later on. These are the type of writers that blossom into true experts. They are unrelenting in their efforts. You can see the passion in their written words. These are the keepers.
I'm thinking gain, when do you become fulfilled as a writer? Reflecting on this question gives me the idea that it depends on you as the writer. If I can achieve a highly creative flair and at the same time have clients brimming with smiles, then, my work is done.
I don't know about you. When do you become fulfilled as a writer?
On a final note, article writing is not the be all of everything. Horn your skills by practicing. Don't outsource if you can help it. If you must outsource make it worthwhile for your clients. Not everyone is cut out to be a writer. If you are seriously struggling with putting words together, find another vocation. Alternatively, you may find great success from reading good how to write books like the one written by Jeff Anderson; 10 things every writer needs to know. Pretty impressive book, gives you all the great tips and information.
